Accommodation guarantee
Depending on your chosen course, fee status and level of study, you may be guaranteed campus accommodation.
Am I eligible for guaranteed accommodation?
Whether you’re guaranteed an offer of accommodation depends on a few factors. Here’s what you need to know to understand your eligibility.
Undergraduate applicants
You’ll be guaranteed University accommodation for your first year of study at Sussex if you:
- are a new, full-time undergraduate student applying through UCAS for a September start
- choose Sussex as your first choice and firmly accept your offer
- apply for accommodation by midnight on 31 July in the year you begin your studies.
Our Accommodation Guarantee applies to your first year of study at Sussex - whether that’s a Foundation Year, Year 1, or Year 2 if you transfer from another university.
Insurance offer-holders
While we can’t guarantee housing to students who hold an insurance offer with us, we’d still encourage you to apply for housing before the deadline of midnight on 31 July.
Once we’ve placed all students eligible for guaranteed housing, we’ll then consider your application. In previous years, we’ve often been able to offer accommodation to insurance offer-holders.
Clearing offer-holders
If you secure your place at Sussex through Clearing 2025, you’ll be guaranteed an offer of accommodation so you can focus on the exciting stuff – connecting with your housemates, planning your , and exploring Brighton & Hove. You will be guaranteed accommodation if you accept a place within 48 hours of receiving your offer and apply for housing by 5pm on Tuesday 19 August.
Find out more about the housing application process for Clearing students.
Pre-sessional students
If you’re already studying a pre-sessional course at Sussex, you’ll be guaranteed University accommodation if you apply before midnight on 31 July.
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) students
If you’re a BSMS student in your first year of study, you’ll receive housing information from the Accommodation Office at the University of Brighton.

Masters applicants
International applicants
You’ll be guaranteed a room on campus if you:
- are a full-time international Masters student from outside the UK
- are starting a Masters course in September
- apply for accommodation by midnight on 31 July.
Once you’ve paid your tuition fee deposit, we’ll be able to confirm your housing offer – so we recommend doing so as soon as you can.
If you’re exempt from paying the deposit, this condition won’t apply to you.
一本道 applicants
If you’re assessed as a 一本道 student, you’ll need to rent housing in the private sector.
We offer lots of support to help you navigate the private rental market.
Pending status
If your fee status is still being assessed, your accommodation eligibility will be confirmed once your status has been finalised.
