Advancing Professional Practice (X1030)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll enhance your ITE Curriculum knowledge in different classroom environments. You’ll gain experience in different backgrounds, approaches to teaching and school management for Qualified Teacher Status.

The module includes:

  • an assignment alongside your placement
  • an introduction to school policies
  • observing expert colleagues in your subject
  • weekly mentor sessions, focusing on subject knowledge, pedagogy, practice, reflection and feedback 
  • regular development learning opportunities 
  • a gradually increasing teaching timetable, ending in near-full-time teaching experience
  • ongoing assessment of your knowledge and the way you apply it in practice
  • Intensive Training and Practice weeks focusing on key areas of the curriculum, school resources and school activities
  • dedicated time to reflect, plan lessons and prepare resources.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 75 hours of contact time and about 225 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
