Autumn and spring teaching

Through a practical placement and workshops, you’ll:

  • work with service users and carers, developing your communication skills.
  • use more independence and your own judgement under supervision 
  • work with more complex casework, including:
    • assessment
    • case planning
    • intervention
    • review
    • challenging situations where risk is present
  • practice in a new setting with a different service user and/or carer group, including vulnerable groups
  • apply social work law, knowledge, concepts, theory and research
  • apply evidence-based methods of intervention 
  • work under the Social Work Professional Regulator’s standards and codes of conduct
  • develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, values and capabilities to fit professional standards. 

By the end of the module, you’ll be a newly qualified social worker who can work with a range of different groups. You’ll be able to perform a range of tasks and have the ability to work in more complex situations independently.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
