In this module, you’ll explore Biological Psychology – the scientific study of the brain and how it shapes behaviour.

You’ll examine the basic structure and function of the brain and its cells, alongside studying methodological approaches used in the field.

Using the latest research evidence, you’ll inspect a variety of behaviours, such as :

  • motivation
  • reproductive behaviour
  • sleep
  • psychological disorders.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the basic anatomy and function of the nervous system
  • Develop an understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying processes such as motivation, reproductive behaviour and sleep
  • Appreciate the complexity of the nervous system and the major psychological disorders
  • Critically evaluate the methodological approaches employed in the field of Biological Psychology, and appreciate their strengths and limitations
