Depression in Adolescents

Module C8902

Module details for 2022/23.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 6

Module Outline

This module will cover topics such as the characteristics of depression in young people, the broad range of potential causes of depression, and the evidence-base for the treatment of adolescent depression. The module may examine the historical models which have led to the development of specific treatments, such as the cognitive model of depression, but generally will emphasise and evaluate recent advances in the field. This could include approaches to diagnosis, and the arrival of the Child and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) initiative. At the end of the module you should have an understanding of the complex developmental pathways and current treatment outcomes of depression in adolescence.
