Module Outline
By the end of the module students will have gained knowledge in developmental models, psychopathology in CYP, and relevant legislation, polices and frameworks associated with working with CYP in mental health care. Students will also be introduced to concepts in the therapeutic relationship and group processes as relevant to CYP.
Sessions will include theoretical teaching providing students with an overview of the topic area.

By the end of the module students will have gained knowledge in developmental models, psychopathology in CYP, and relevant legislation, polices and frameworks associated with working with CYP in mental health care. Students will also be introduced to concepts in the therapeutic relationship and group processes as relevant to CYP.
Sessions will include theoretical teaching providing students with an overview of the topic area.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge and competence in gathering appropriate information in a timely manner to arrive at a theoretically underpinned, succinct and collaborative definition of the child or young person’s main mental health difficulty and the impact these have on their daily living.
Demonstrate knowledge of and competence in engaging and building therapeutic alliances with children and young people, managing the emotional content of sessions and empathising with the client’s perspective of the world.
Demonstrate knowledge and competence in recognition and accurate assessment of the risk posed by the child or young person to themselves or others.
Demonstrate competence in accurate recording of individual interviews, group interventions and questionnaire assessments using paper and electronic record keeping.
