Module Outline

This module introduces students to the skills necessary for conducting psychological research. This module explores analysing the data obtained from experimental and quasi-experimental studies in psychology. Students will be taught how to analyse data quantitatively, using statistical techniques as well as under what circumstances various statistical tests are appropriate. Students will be shown how to produce written reports of their findings as set out by the American Psychological Association. Students will be taught various research-related IT skills, including digital literature searches, and how to use SPSS to perform statistical tests and display data.

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of statistical techniques by assessing and interpreting data

Demonstrate a critical awareness and comprehensively identify the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used in psychological research

Evaluate and critically assess research results using citation conventions

Demonstrate self-direction and originality in sourcing relevant published research on which to base the lab report write up
