Module details for 2025/26.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 6

Module Outline

This module will study the neurodevelopmental condition, autism spectrum disorder, across all stages of the lifespan from early childhood into old age. Whilst contextualising the condition at different stages of development, the content will mainly but not exclusively focus on cognition. Areas such as memory, language, learning and the ‘self’ may be explored in childhood, as well as mental health and/or transgender issues in adolescence. During adulthood, topics such as Bayesian theories of perception; maternal autism; memory; sensory and/or emotional processing might be studied and then finish with addressing some of the consequences of ageing in autism.
