Module Outline

The main aim of this module is to enable students to undertake an independent research project. Students will be involved in the design and execution of a substantial piece of empirical research on a topic that is relevant to their course. Students will need to critically survey and identify relevant theories and models and then to employ them to make recommendations for problem solutions. The dissertation will consist of a research report detailing the project that has been carried out.

Timetabled briefing and preparation sessions will take place in semester 2 (Spring). These sessions are shared with the mirror module (Empirical Project in Marketing) in the Business school.

Module learning outcomes

Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge of the research field and selected topic and critically appraise and evaluate research problems in the field.

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques/methods/materials applicable to their own research.

Analyse data and demonstrate a comprehensive and critical understanding of research findings (including presentation, interpretation, limitations).

Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems.
