Celebrating our Sustainability Champions: Green Impact 2024–2025

The Ò»±¾µÀ is proud to celebrate the achievements of this year’s Green Impact programme, a staff and studentled initiative that continues to inspire practical sustainability across the institution.
This year’s Green Impact Awards celebrated the outstanding efforts of teams from across the University, recognising their commitment to embedding sustainability into everyday working life. The 2024–2025 award recipients are:

Special Awards
Sustainability Hero – Ellen Thomas
Recognised for her outstanding leadership and creativity in driving sustainability and team engagement, including organising activities like litter picks, wellbeing sessions, and a Digital Decluttering Day.
Innovation for Engagement – School of Psychology: Environmental Psychology Research Interest Group
Awarded for creating a space for impactful discussions on sustainability and psychology research, leading to practical and informed actions across the School.
Environmental Improvement Award – School of Life Sciences
Honoured for reducing waste and carbon footprint in teaching labs by introducing sustainable lab practices, such as recyclable pipette tip refill systems.
Community Action Award – School of Life Sciences
Awarded in recognition of the Period Dignity Project, which has provided over 37,000 free period products on campus, thanks to the initiative led by Kristy Flowers.
Student Leadership Award – Sam Waller and Dearbhla McIlroy
Celebrated for leading the Planetary Health Report Card project at BSMS, demonstrating strong sustainability leadership alongside their medical studies.
These awards highlight not only the dedication of our teams, but the innovation, passion, and leadership demonstrated by individuals and departments across the University. The team’s contributions demonstrate the powerful role of collaboration in advancing sustainability and creating positive change.
